2020…the show is growing!

In just a few weeks this radio show will turn 6 years old…and it’s just getting better. Almost 300 guests have been on the air with me and there are now 280 episodes on this website. We are missing a few, but most of those are probably “best of’s” and my man Angelo at the station is looking for the lost few!

Towards the end of 2018, my youngest daughter Taylor began showing a real interest in the show, so she made a few more appearances as my co-host, and as of this month, she’s going to be co-hosting as much as her busy high school schedule will allow. You can’t imagine what it’s like watching her grow right before your eyes. Just a little background on Taylor might be in order. She has been hunting and fishing with me since she was 4 or 5 and her first time on the show was back in 2016, she was only 12, when I asked her to interview Eva Shockey! In 2018 I received an email from a friend of mine at Shimano Fishing, Kurt Mazurek, and he had a really strange request. He had a marketing video ready for the SLX rods and reels that were going to debut at ICAST, but he wanted a girl and asked if I thought Taylor could be “that girl.” Well, she went from rookie to pro in front of the camera in less than 5 hours up on Lake Tillery and when I got to ICAST, I was greeted by Taylor…10′ tall and 12′ wide in the Shimano booth! She was part of the 2019 marketing campaign for the rollout of the SLX XT and SLX DC at ICAST, where she and her co-star Lawson Tilghman gave not one, but two morning press conferences for Shimano. I wonder where she will be in another few years, but it’s going to be fun to watch!

My home station, 94.5 WGTK “The Answer” in Greenville comes in as #59 in Nielsen’s rankings of radio markets. WGTK owns a 100,000 watt transmitter up on Paris Mountain and that signal covers a 200 mile wide circle of listeners. People from the eastern corner of Georgia like Athens, in western North Carolina from Franklin north of Asheville over to Gastonia, and of course my home state of South Carolina from Rock Hill to Chapin to Edgefield. I have been incredibly privileged to work from the beginning with many great people at WGTK and can’t wait to see what the next 6 years brings us!

Growth, and in radio that means another market. So on January 4, 2020, Taylor and I hosted our first live show on 100.7 WQXL “The Point” in Columbia. Columbia, in those same Nielsen rankings, comes in at #84. Kevin Cohen and I worked together bringing the show to the Midlands, and I already know our relationship is a mirror image of the one I have in Greenville. Lexington is where my grandparents lived, my dad was born and grew up there and I spent many weeks there in the summers. I also had an aunt and uncle that lived on Lake Murray, and it’s a wonder my younger cousin and I survived some of the days and nights we rambled on those waters! So coming to the Midlands was something like coming home, and I hope I get to stay there for a long time. I’m still trying to find time to post more content on here, but I am up to date on the Podcast tabs…except for those missing recordings!

Our new home in the Midlands.

Thanks for being a part of my audience and stay tuned for more coverage of our South Carolina Outdoors!
